Overview: The
program is for Dallas residents 18 years or older who are
interested in learning more about how Dallas Fire-Rescue is
organized and how we conduct operations. The department’s
multifaceted operations will be explored during the 10 week
fire academy. Each night on Thursdays, participants will
meet at the fire academy and learn about various subjects
such as Dallas Fire-Rescue’s hiring and training process,
apparatus familiarization, hazardous materials team, USAR
(Urban Search and Rescue), fire tactics and strategies,
along with other engaging topics. Participants will also
receive valuable life safety CPR certification training.
The fire inspection division will give an overview of their
operations and provide information on volunteer
opportunities. The last week of the 10 week program will be
comprised of a full day on Saturday of hands-on training and
demonstrations such as vehicle extrication and rappelling.
At the conclusion of the academy, graduates will be invited
back for a formal graduation ceremony at the training
center.
Application enrollment period is from January
29 to February 12, 2010. The class begins on Thursday,
February 25, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. Criminal background checks
will be conducted on all applicants for the CFA.
Classes will be conducted at the Dallas
Fire-Rescue Department’s Training Center located at 5000
Dolphin Road (Academy Building-B) with our initial class in
the Building A auditorium (Administration Building).
