Mission:
We will provide citizens an
overview of the services that Dallas Fire-Rescue provides,
increase fire and life safety awareness, and promote the
customer service aspect of our department.
Objective: We seek
to provide participants with knowledge of our core job
functions with classroom instruction and live
demonstrations.

Overview: The
program is for Dallas residents 18 years or older who are
interested in learning more about how Dallas Fire-Rescue is
organized and how we conduct operations. The department’s
multifaceted operations will be explored during the 10 week
fire academy. Each night on Thursdays, participants will
meet at the fire academy and learn about various subjects
such as Dallas Fire-Rescue’s hiring and training process,
apparatus familiarization, hazardous materials team, USAR
(Urban Search and Rescue), fire tactics and strategies,
along with other engaging topics. Participants will also
receive valuable life safety CPR certification training.
The fire inspection division will give an overview of their
operations and provide information on volunteer
opportunities. The last week of the 10 week program will be
comprised of a full day on Saturday of hands-on training and
demonstrations such as vehicle extrication and rappelling.
. At the conclusion of the demonstration day, there will be
a short graduation ceremony. The graduation ceremony will
include polo shirt and certificate presentations along with
photographs.
Application enrollment period is
from April 30th to May 14th with the
initial class beginning on Thursday, May 29, 2008.
Criminal background checks will be conducted on all
applicants for the CFA.
