Funeral held for Dallas Firefighter

Funeral services were held for Dallas firefighter Vincent Davis
on Saturday February 16, 2002. The full honors funeral started with
a procession of fire apparatus from Laurel Land Funeral Home to the
grounds of The Concord Baptist Church. Firefighters from Station 26
rode along side Davis’ body, which was carried on top of Engine 26
and led the long procession. The procession passed under raised
aerial ladder trucks, holding an American Flag overhead.
Firefighters from around the country formed an honor line as
Firefighter Davis’ body was brought into the church. His fire
helmet, dress cap and the Medal of Valor was presented to
Firefighter Davis’ family. Vincent Davis, Jr. wore his father’s
fire helmet as “Taps” was played to conclude the ceremony.
Firefighter Davis’ body will be flown to Alton, Illinois for burial
next to his father.
Dallas Fire-Rescue wishes to thank the community for their
support, their prayers and their well wishes. It has meant so much
to our fire family to see and feel the support of the Dallas
community, and the fire family near and far. A special thank you to
all those who took time to attend the funeral service, coming from
points not only in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex but from across
the country. Your presence was noticed and will not soon be
forgotten.
A final thank you goes out to all the metroplex fire departments
that supplied companies to cover Dallas Fire Stations and others
that offered manpower. This was certainly a great gesture, and
allowed more Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel to attend the service of a
fallen brother. Although we are willing, this is a favor we hope
never has to be returned. Thanks to all for their support.
A memorial fund has been set up for Vincent Davis' family.
