Fire Fighter Hodges, while performing his duties in fighting the Huey and Philp fire, became extremely cold and exhausted, later developing into pneumonia, causing his death.

The remains of Henry G. Hodges, aged 25, were interred in Oakland cemetery Wednesday afternoon, after the funeral services held at the chapel of George W. Loudermilk. Rev. Daniel Schrimpf conducted the service, and the following members of the local fire department acted as pallbearers: Second Assistant Chief J. L. Marder, J. C. Milam, C. A. Lendendecker, W. J. Oliver, and W. J. McEvey. The deceased had been a member of the fire department of Dallas only a few weeks when the Huey and Philp fire occurred, and in the performance of his duty, received a wetting while cold and exhausted. A bad cold resulted which later developed into pneumonia, causing his death. He is survived by one sister, who lives in this city.
