Fireman Dies at wheel of Truck
G.C. "Cecil" Moore

Driver Engineer G.C. Moore (Cecil) was answering a structure fire in the 2600 block of Mayhew when he suffered a massive heart attack while behind the wheel of Engine 39.  The engine crew started CPR and continued to do so as they transported Moore in Battalion 10 chief's car to Baylor Hospital.

This happened on a Monday and he died at Baylor Hospital Thursday morning.  He was 56 years old.  He joined the Dallas Fire Department in 1942 and was assigned to Station 21, located in a converted house on Grove Street in the Love Field area.  Following a stint in the military during World War II, he returned to the Department and served at Station 11 on Cedar Springs and at Station 21 which had moved from the converted house to a former military fire station located on the runway at Love Field.

When Station 39 opened he worked the very first shift in the new station.  He remained there until his death.

He was the first fireman to be buried in the firefighters area at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The widow of G.C. Moore, her 2 children, and 11 grandchildren and great grandchildren attended the Time Capsule Ceremony at Station 39 on April 19, 2003.
