Driver Engineer G.C. Moore (Cecil) was answering a structure fire
in the 2600 block of Mayhew when he suffered a massive heart attack
while behind the wheel of Engine 39. The engine crew started
CPR and continued to do so as they transported Moore in Battalion 10
chief's car to Baylor Hospital.
This happened on a Monday and he died at Baylor Hospital Thursday
morning. He was 56 years old. He joined the Dallas Fire
Department in 1942 and was assigned to Station 21, located in a
converted house on Grove Street in the Love Field area.
Following a stint in the military during World War II, he returned
to the Department and served at Station 11 on Cedar Springs and at
Station 21 which had moved from the converted house to a former
military fire station located on the runway at Love Field.
When Station 39 opened he worked the very first shift in the new
station. He remained there until his death.
He was the first fireman to be buried in the firefighters area at
Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The widow of G.C. Moore, her 2 children, and 11 grandchildren and
great grandchildren attended the Time Capsule Ceremony at Station 39
on April 19, 2003.

Rites slated for Fireman G. C. Moore
Funeral services for G.C. Moore, 56,
of 2205 San Medina, the Dallas fireman who was pronounced dead after
suffering a heart attack Monday and then revived, will be held
Saturday.
The Rev. John Lee Harris will conduct
services at 11 a.m. in the Lakeside Baptist Church. Entombment
will be in Hillcrest Mausoleum.
Mr. Moore suffered a heart attack
Monday morning when he drove a truck to the scene of a fire in the
2600 block of Mayhew. He was pronounced dead at Baylor
Hospital and eight minutes later, a nurse noticed he was breathing.
He died at the hospital Thursday morning.
A native of Prattville, Mr. Moore had
been with the Dallas Fire Department as a driver-engineer since
1942. He was stationed at Fire Station No. 39 at 10750 Shiloh
Road.
Mr. Moore had lived in Dallas for 29
years.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs.
Hazel Moore of Dallas; a son, Charles Moore of Dallas; a daughter,
Mrs. Paul Sharrock of Tyler; his mother, Mrs. Pearl Moore of Dallas;
four brothers, Huttie C. Moore and Paul Moore, both of Dallas and
Arnold Moore and Ray Moore, both of Sulphur Springs; three sisters,
Mrs. Dell Alberts and Mrs. Ruby Morgan, both of Dallas, and Mrs.
Mabel Cunningham of Commerce; and two grandsons.
