First
arriving firefighters reported lots of smoke coming from a large
one-story commercial building. The flat roof structure was recently
the home of Park Cities Antiques, which had relocated approximately
three months ago. The building had been vacant since that time.
The fire burned through the collapsed roof on the front half of the
building while the back portion suffered heavy smoke and water
damage. The challenge for firefighters, especially with the high
winds present, was to keep the fire contained to the building where
it originated and keep it from spreading. A successful exterior
attack, which had firefighters surrounding the building and fighting
the fire from the outside, was able to keep the fire contained.
Fire investigators have not made a determination on the exact cause
of the fire, but estimate the damage to the building at $250,000.
There were no injuries reported during this incident. |
