1st alarm 6:52 p.m. Cause: Careless Smoking Injuries: One fatality - a 47-year-old white male Damages:
$5,000-Structure Details: Firefighters arrived to find a second fatal fire in as many days earlier this evening. Investigators state the cause as careless smoking. The fire victim is a 47-year-old white male who had an existing disability that limited his movement without assistance. When the fire started, alert neighbors called 9-1-1 and then made efforts to extinguish the fire, attempting to rescue the victim prior to the arrival of firefighters. Firefighters arrived in less than 3 minutes and despite the efforts of neighbors and firefighters, the victim was pronounced dead on the scene. The fire was contained to the apartment where it started with no further damage to surrounding units. Investigators on the scene were unable to find a working smoke detector in the apartment.
