Details: Firefighters arrived at a home in Oak Cliff this afternoon to find fire and smoke coming from the 2nd floor. The home had been converted into individual apartments. An aggressive interior attack on the fire led firefighters up the stairs to a back corner room. Firefighters were able to contain most of the fire damage to this area of the structure but an unidentified male victim was found in the area where the fire started. He was pronounced dead on the scene. A firefighter on the scene suffered a minor injury and was taken to Methodist Hospital for further evaluation. Investigators will continue to look into the cause of the fire and confirm the identity of the man. A preliminary search on the 2nd floor of this home was unsuccessful in finding a working smoke detector. Although the 3 fatal fires in as many days are unrelated, there is a common theme: no working smoke detector in the home. The Dallas Fire Department would again like to make the public aware that those in need of a smoke detector just simply call 3-1-1 and request one free of charge. Dallas residents can also stop by their neighborhood fire station and firefighters will be able to assist them.
