Details: Firefighters arrived to find an apartment building well involved in fire and quickly requested a 2nd alarm response.  The building on fire was in the process of being renovated, and fortunately was not occupied.  Nearby apartment buildings that were occupied were being threatened by the fire and firefighters worked to get in place and keep the large volume of fire from spreading to other buildings.  As efforts were underway to contain the fire, an exterior brick wall crashed down, trapping two firefighters.  Both firefighters were transported to Methodist Hospital, one of them in critical condition.  Firefighter Vincent L. Davis died as a result of his injuries.  Vince, who was 42 years old, started his career with Dallas Fire-Rescue in 1991.  Vince was also a certified paramedic, currently assigned to Station 26 in Oak Cliff.  Vince is the first firefighter to die on the fireground since February 1987.  Firefighter/Paramedic Chuck Womble, who was also trapped by the wall, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated and released.  A third firefighter, not involved in the collapse, was transported to Charlton Methodist Hospital after suffering chest pains on the scene.  Fire crews and investigators have remained on the scene through the night.            ###
