One-alarm Fire Claims Life of Young Child

Times: Dispatched 11:31 a.m., Out-tapped 11:47 a.m.

Cause: Undetermined. Fire investigators are awaiting autopsy results from the Dallas County Medical Examiner before issuing a determination of cause. Initial assessment suggests that the cause will be found to be accidental.

Injuries: One fatality. The deceased was a nine-month old boy, Herson Joya.

  Surviving relatives include: Jasiel Joya - twin brother of the deceased
Eric Joya - four years old.
Elsie Joya - the children's mother
Jose Joya - the children's father

 


Damages: $ 15,000 - Structure
                    $ 5,000 - Contents.

Details: It was reported that the four-year old alerted his mother to the presence of the fire. She was able to remove him and one of the twins through a rear door to the home, but was unable to gain reentry to the home to rescue the remaining twin. Investigators report that the smoke detector in the home was not operational at the time of the fire.
