Arson Investigators have made fire cause determinations in two major fires

 

The 6-alarm fire on February 11, 2002

At  2727 W. Jefferson Blvd the Creekside Apartments

 

The fire has been classified as an accidental fire with the official cause listed as “Careless Operation of Flame Producing Equipment”.

 

The investigation has concluded that construction crews at the apartment building under renovation were conducting two separate operations involving open flames.  Both of these open flame operations were being conducted shortly before the fire started in the exact area that the fire originated.  The two specific open flame operations that were being conducted were: (1) the use of a cutting torch to remove metal railings and (2) the use of a plumber’s torch to install copper pipe and fittings.

 

The investigation into the cause of the fire has concluded.

The fire has been classified as an arson fire with official cause listed as “Incendiary”.

 

Arson investigators are now continuing the criminal investigation of this fire.
