One Man Dies Following House Fire

 

 

Date of Incident:                    Thursday, April 25, 2002

 

Location:    6965 Freemont Street

 

Response:    5 pieces of heavy fire equipment, 20 firefighters

 

Times:     1st alarm – 5:10 a.m.; fire under control at 5:37 a.m.                         

 

Cause:   Under investigation

 

Fatalities:   One.  A 58 year old white male was transported to Presbyterian Hospital in critical                                                                                                 condition, where he was pronounced deceased.  Identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

 

Damages:   $80,000 total:  $30,000 to structure, and $50,000 to contents

 

Details: A passerby, who noticed smoke coming from the structure, reported the fire in this single-story residence.  The victim, who was reported to live alone, was removed from the home by firefighters and transported to Presbyterian Hospital by Dallas Fire-Rescue paramedics, where he was later pronounced deceased.  The actual cause of death will be determined by the Dallas County Medical Examiner.  This is the ninth fire fatality of 2002 in the City of Dallas.
