An early morning electrical fire caused smoke and water damage to the electrical room in the basement level of the American Airlines Center.  The fire started inside a wire chase, or conduit, that traveled through the large electrical room.  A single sprinkler head was activated and kept the fire from spreading any further; doing exactly what it was designed to do.

Firefighters were able to direct the water to an area where it could run off through existing floor drains.  The air handling system was utilized to remove smoke from the electrical room, keeping the damage isolated to the immediate area.  Water from the sprinkler system did cause several of the electrical panels to trip their breakers and shut off.  AAC engineers are working to evaluate the full extent of the damage.

According to AAC officials, the only thing scheduled to take place today at the center are Dallas Mavericks ticket sales, and that will continue as planned.  There were no injuries reported during the incident.
