One-Alarm Fire
Claims Life
Date of Incident: July 12, 2002
Location: 3525
Routh Street
Response: 5 pieces of heavy fire equipment, 20 firefighters
Times: 1st
alarm – 2:32 p.m.
Under control @ 3:00 p.m.
Cause: Under
Investigation
Injuries: 1
fatality – 43-year-old white male
Damage: $6,000
Details: Having received the initial call from an alarm company, firefighters
arrived to the 2-story condominiums in Oak Lawn to find smoke coming from
downstairs. The fire was quickly
contained to the downstairs portion of the unit, with the majority of the fire
damage being in the kitchen area. Smoke
and water damage affected other parts of the condo, but was contained to the
unit where it started. There was no damage to surrounding units. A 43-year-old male was found in the kitchen
area where most of the fire damage occurred.
The victim lived there alone and had been renting the unit for about the
last 4 years. There is speculation that
the victim may have been attempting to put the fire out and was overcome. The actual cause of death will be determined
by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s office.
The name of the victim is not being released at this time, pending the
notification of the next of kin.
