Dallas Fire-Rescue emergency crews reported heavy fire and smoke coming out of one of the buildings at the Ridgecrest Apartments.  An aggressive attack on the fire by the first arriving crews kept the fire contained to a few units.  A family pet was discovered and rescued from an apartment on the second floor.  Fire investigators believe that the fire originated in or near an A/C window unit installed in one of the apartments on the first floor.  The fire then spread to the unit upstairs from the outside.  The fire damaged 8 apartment units and displaced 8 families, which consisted of 18 adults and 30 children.  The American Red Cross is currently assisting the families with their immediate needs.
