Firefighters arriving at a one-alarm fire encountered heavy smoke coming out of a two-story residence in west Oak Cliff.  The owner of the house was found outside on the front yard of the house with burns to his shoulders.  The 62 y/o male informed the firefighters that his roommate was still inside the house.  Firefighters immediately entered the burning residence and found the victim inside a bathroom where he apparently had succumbed to the smoke.  He was then removed from the house.  During subsequent searches for additional occupants, firefighters discovered that several cats had perished during the fire.  However, one of the pets was found alive and was promptly removed from the house.  The cat then received treatment for smoke inhalation.  The investigation will continue throughout the day.
