Firefighters were first alerted to the
incident when relatives arrived at the one-story brick residence and
noticed fire residue. They were unable to get a response from the
resident, and reported that the home was secured; they found no
evidence of a break-in. When firefighters arrived to investigate
the call, they determined that a fire had occurred earlier in the
day, and that it had burned itself out, but not before filling the
entire house with smoke. The victim was found in the bedroom,
although the fire is believed to have started in the living room.
Fire investigators report that a hard-wired smoke detector was found
in the residence, although it is not known if the detector was
working at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is still
under investigation but investigators note that it does not appear
suspicious. |
