Details: Dallas Firefighters responded to a one-alarm fire located at 4006 Canal St.  As they approached the home, one of the residents was waiting for them on the front porch.  She notified them that someone was still in the burning home.  Firefighters went in and found a 77 year-old male.  They made the rescue and immediately began CPR on the victim.  He was then transported to Baylor Medical Center.  The victim was later transferred to the Parkland Burn Unit, where he was listed in critical condition.  The victim passed away at 8:30 p.m. on November 28, 2001.  Fire investigators were called out to the home that morning to investigate the cause of the fire.  They completed their investigation and determined the cause to be combustibles to close to a heat source.  The victim’s clothing had caught on fire when he backed into a space heater.  The woman who lived in the home attempted to help the victim but was unsuccessful.  Smoke and flames immediately overcame the inside of the home.
