Cause: Discarded
Cigarette
Injuries: None
Damage: $70,000
Details: Firefighters arrived to the 2-story apartment
complex to find 2 units with heavy fire.
The units on fire were on the end of the building and the fire was
extending into the attic and surrounding apartments. It appears that the fire started in a vacant,
ground floor apartment on the end of the building and quickly spread to the
apartment above. Firefighters worked
aggressively to keep the fire from extending further into the building. All of the residents were able to escape and
there were no injuries reported during this incident. Four units were damaged in some way by fire,
smoke or water. Property management and
Red Cross volunteers worked with displaced residents to find them
accommodations. The cause of the fire
was a carelessly discarded cigarette in the 1st floor
apartment.
