Council District 6
7161 Envoy Court
Engine 47
Rescue 47
Battalion 9

Built at a cost of $72,900, Station #47 opened January 1, 1961. The station serves the Brook Hollow Industrial District, comprised of commercial warehouses and wholesale and retail businesses.

An amusing story about #47 concerns one of its first Captains. A particular fellow, he had a system of "color-coded mops." The various mop handles were each painted a different color; each color designated a specific room in which that mop was to be used. Rumors implicate firefighters who supposedly had fun switching the mop heads and handles.

Located in the station's first alarm district are several high rise hotels, hospitals, and commercial occupancies. Station personnel were dispatched to the Regent Hotel, 1241 West Mockingbird Lane, (box 9177) at 3:54 a.m., on March 18, 1983. Upon arrival, firefighters found the entire lobby filled with smoke. Truck 47, the first arriving company, immediately placed a second alarm on the incident. The fire escalated to a four alarm and caused 107 guests to be evacuated from the 350 room hotel. Four civilians were injured in the incident and were transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital where they were treated and released for smoke inhalation. Although individual smoke detectors sounded both in the guest rooms and corridors, hotel personnel were not in the front lobby monitoring the central alarm system. The incident resulted in $500,000 loss and two citations for failure to comply with the Dallas Fire Code. The hotel management was fined $412.

Because of the close proximity to several hospitals, the MICU assigned to Station #47 is one of four in the city which has an incubator added to its inventory. Paramedics assigned to #47 have the additional responsibility of maintaining the incubator in a serviceable condition for immediate use should the need arise.

Personnel at the station have planted small shrubs and a few trees on the side of the station to provide a landscaped appearance as well as a little shade for their volleyball court.
