Security Alert

August 14, 2006 – The United States Government has lowered the nation’s threat level from Code Red or Severe to Code Orange or High for flights from the United Kingdom to the United States.   The U.S. threat level remains at Code Orange, or High for all domestic and international flights. The ban on liquids and gels in carry on baggage remains in full effect.

The security measures already taken have allowed us to address an imminent threat of attack for flights between the United Kingdom and the United States. This does not mean the threat is over. The investigation continues to follow all leads. In particular, we are remaining vigilant for any signs of planning within the U.S. or directed at Americans.”

Housed within the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department’s Communications Division, the Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP) is responsible for coordinating the emergency management program for the City of Dallas.  Its program goals are to plan for and maintain the public peace, health and safety during an emergency.  It does so by administering the City’s Master Emergency Operations Plan (MEOP), which includes plans and preparations for protection, relief, recovery and rehabilitation from the effects of a disaster.  The objective of these plans is to restore the City to normal conditions as rapidly as possible after a disaster.

New !!  Homeland Security Advisory Graphic, shown above, will keep you up to dalte on the current Terrorist Threat level.  Click here, or on the graphic above for an explanation of the various threat levels.

The Office is charged with assuring timely and adequate public warning of potential or imminent disaster events, and providing disaster-related safety information to the public and media.  It develops, coordinates, updates and exercises the MEOP and its related standard operating procedures.  OEP administers internal programs associated with Presidential disaster declarations, and works with state and federal offices to enhance disaster preparedness efforts in Dallas.  The Office of Emergency Preparedness is available on a 24-hour, 7-days-a-week basis.

Advice for Safeguarding Buildings Against Chemical or Biological Attack
This web site is intended for emergency personnel and for building operators. It contains our current advice for dealing with a biological or chemical release in a building. It will be updated as our advice changes.   The advice on this site is appropriate for small and medium-sized releases such as those that would be expected from a terrorist attack, not for industrial-scale releases such as those at Bhopal, India or Chernobyl, Ukraine.

Dallas Alert
Dallas Alert is the cooperative result of both public and private stakeholders in the Central Business District working together to identify general responsibilities and appropriate actions to be taken in preparing for, mitigating, responding to and recovering from critical incidents. The primary consideration is life safety, property protection, and evidence preservation. The next important consideration is quick business resumption. The merit of these preparedness measures maximizes personal and community security and lessens economic loss.
