Fire Academy Training...

Texas Commission on Fire Protection mandates a minimum of 468 hours.  Topics unique to functioning within the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department are also taught to recruits.

 


Specialty Team Training-

  • Texas-Task Force 2

  • Hazardous Materials Operations

  • Aircraft Rescue Firefighting

  • Swift water Rescue

 

 


Paramedic Training-

New recruits receive EMT and Paramedic training.  Dallas Fire-Rescue contracts with UT Southwestern Medical School which provides EMS training.  Over 70% of our workload involves EMS work.

 


Structure Firefighting/Advancement Opportunities

Typical Work schedules include 24 hours on duty and 48 hours off.  Competitive promotional exams administered by Civil Service Department.  Civil Service Promotional exams include testing for the ranks of Driver Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain, and Battalion Chief.
