Topics unique to functioning within the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department
are also taught to recruits.

Training-
New recruits
receive EMT and Paramedic training. Dallas Fire-Rescue contracts
with UT Southwestern Medical School which provides EMS training.
Over 70% of our workload involves EMS work.

Firefighting/Advancement Opportunities
Typical Work
schedules include 24 hours on duty and 48 hours off. Competitive
promotional exams administered by Civil Service Department. Civil
Service Promotional exams include testing for the ranks of Driver
Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain, and Battalion Chief.
