The forty acre training facility is planned as the
future home of the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department. Currently, it is
the location of the Training Academy, the Training Administration
Building, the Clothing/Supply warehouse, and the Maintenance
Repair Shop.
The Training Academy was completed in 1987 and
contains 17,000 square feet of classrooms, apparatus room, and
offices. In addition, there is a driving course, a flashover
chamber, a railroad tank car, a 7 story commercial simulator, a 3
story open drill tower, and residence simulator.
The Training Administration building was completed
in 1993 and contains 20,000 square feet. This building houses the
administrative offices, Personnel Division, Internal Affairs
Division, Video Production Facility, In-service Training Offices,
a Physical Fitness facility, and a 94 seat auditorium.
The Training Center was renamed the Dodd J. Miller
Training Center in 2000 as a tribute to retired Chief Miller.
Chief Miller's administration was responsible for the planning and
development of the Training Center complex..
The Maintenance Shop was completed in 1987 and has
20,000 square feet, including 12 service bays used to repair both
heavy equipment and light equipment. In addition to the
Administrative offices, there is a Vehicle parts distribution
Center and a covered apparatus parking area.
The Clothing and Supply Building was completed in
1991 and contains 20,000 square feet. It is the warehouse for
station ware, protective clothing, EMS supplies, and station
supplies.
This is also the home of the Dallas Fire Fighter
Monument, listing the names of all firefighters who have died in
the line of duty.
